EPISODE 164: BECOME

BE IN THE WORD:

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1 Cor 13:11)

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Cor 15:58)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Cor 5:17)

“Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children.” (Eph 5:1)

Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)

Be examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:3)

“And he said to me, ‘It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.’” (Rev 21:6)

WHAT ARE YOU BECOMING?

  • Are you becoming more like the world or more like Christ?
  • Are you becoming a reflection of the righteousness of God or a reflection of cultural relevance?
  • Are you becoming more loving or more angry?
  • Are you becoming more childlike in your faith or are you becoming cynical and distrusting?
  • Are you becoming more like the fruits of the Spirit or more like the works of the flesh?
  • Are you becoming more of a political party or more like Jesus?
  • Are you becoming more of a doer, or more of a be-er?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION:

  1. What are you becoming? Take an honest look at your run-of-the-mill, everyday thought life. What are you thinking about? What are you reading and watching and ingesting? Is it helping you become more like a reflection of Christ or less? Be honest in your assessment and ask the Holy Spirit to gently point out places that are preventing you from becoming the image of Christ you’re meant to be.
  2. What do you believe? We talked earlier about how the verse is translated into literally, “become what you believe.” What do you believe? Do you struggle to believe Jesus is the One True Way to the Father or is that hard for you? Do you believe God is for you and completely Love? Do you believe God is with you and never ashamed of you? Honestly assess your beliefs about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Identify places where you believe contrary to your actions and ask God to help. And identify places where you struggle to believe what the Bible says and ask God to help you with your unbelief.
